Chaparral Elementary School and Cal Poly Pomona University have forged an educational technology partnership. The first phase of this partnership has commenced in January 2005 with the development of Chaparral’s new web site. Mr. Kyle Hayes, a web developer/graphics artist and a Computer Information Systems (CIS) major at Cal Poly Pomona, worked collaboratively with Mrs. Kerns and her staff to design and implement the school’s new site. The site’s purpose is to showcase our school and to provide a vehicle for communication for the Chaparral families and the greater community.
The next phase of our technology partnership with Cal Poly is the development of classroom web sites for the Chaparral faculty. This service-learning project will be undertaken by Cal Poly’s CIS students, and will reflect the University’s polytechnic, “learn by doing” educational philosophy. The Chaparral’s classroom sites will bridge the school-to-home connection, enrich students through the exposure to grade-specific educational resources on the Internet, and provide the platform for the experimentation with digital media tools.
We are pleased and excited about our partnership with Cal Poly Pomona and believe that our collaborative efforts will accrue long-term benefits to our students, teachers, parents and the community! |
