This Website
This website for Mrs. Walters and Mrs.Van Kouwenberg's kindergarten classes was created through a collaborate effort between the two teachers of Chaparral Elementary School and Edgar Khachatryan, a senior of the Computer Information Systems (CIS) program at Cal Poly Pomona University. The project was supervised by Dr. Preiser, assistant chair and professor of CIS. Development of this site was one of the first few phases of a pilot community service project in which Cal Poly CIS students taking a service-learning section of the Spring 2006 Interactive Web Development course developed websites for Chaparral Elementary School teachers. This was done through the use of Macromedia's Dreamweaver and Microsoft FrontPage software. In addition, the teachers have been trained to maintain their web pages using Macromedia's Contribute 3.0 software. There are three main purposes to this site: 1) To share information about the classroom and up-to-date news, 2) to act as a resource to parents that will aid them in helping their children to get the best education possible, and 3) to act as a learning resource for students with fun kid-safe games and activities.
