We are using the Scott Foresman math program. This curriculum is standards based and it presents math concepts, sequentially, from kindergarten through sixth grade. I also apply teaching strategies from the Cal Poly CMAST institute, headed by Dr. Judy Jacobs. There are nine academic components to our math program: Addition and Subtraction Strategies, Money, Time, Patterns and Numbers to 1,000, Measurement, Geometry (Plane and Solid Shapes), Fractions and Probability, Multiplication, and Division.

MEASUREMENT :

* Length and height in standard and non-standard (i.e., paper clips) units

GEOMETRY – PLANE & SOLID SHAPES :

* Faces, vertices, edges, sides

* Slides, flips, turns (moving a shape in space)

FRACTIONS AND PROBABILITY :

* Equal parts

* Fractions to fourths, eights, twelfths

MULTIPLICATION :

* Repeated addition

* Drawing pictures for understanding
