The sicker he got and the more in debt he became, the more he composed and the more magnificent
were his works. Only thirty-five years old when he died, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart left a body of
works that still leaves the musical world breathless. Born in 1756 in Salzburg, life seemed full
of promise for this child who soon became the musical prodigy to the royal courts. Throughout his
life he toured the major cities of Europe, seeking court employment. He wrote volumes of music,
including 27 piano concertos, 42 sonatas, and 36 string quartets. Our focus will be on
Mozart's opera "The Magic Flute".
