Prokop's Press May 11, 2007
Dear Parents and Students,
It is so hard to believe that June, and the end of the year is fast approaching. There is so much going on with many important dates and events coming up.
Language Arts: We have finished our novels, and are now working on some culminating activities. Upon our return from camp, we will be starting the next novel, The Great Gilly Hopkins. This is a great book about a troubled foster child and some major changes and decisions that have to be made. After reading the book, we will be spending the last few weeks of school on a mock trial involving, Gilly, her foster mother, and her actual mother. Students are looking forward to this activity. It is great for the end of the year.
Spelling: We have completed the last week of our science camp vocabulary words. Students studied in groups on Wednesday to hopefully be better prepared for the test today. They will impress the counselors with how much they know coming into camp. There will be no spelling words next week, as we will be gone most of the week.
Math: We continue with Chapter 12, with the test on Tuesday. As stated many times, this is a chapter that needs a lot of studying, memorizing formulas and vocabulary. A quiz was given last week and today, to check the progress of that memorization. Students need to know the difference between area, perimeter, volume, radius, and diameter, as the correct formula needs to be chosen.
Social Studies: We have begun chapter 14, looking at the political changes in Greece. We will finish up and will be testing the week after camp.
After camp, we also will let you know when we are ready to present our slide shows.
Science: Students continue working on the murals, and will have a lot to add upon our return from science school.
Science School: We are very excited about camp, and look forward to 3 fun filled, educational days. A reminder that students need to come to school with their lunch and drink separated from their gear. Gear goes in a truck and lunches in the bus. Their gear arrives We have gone over the supply list again with students, and caution them to not bring any additional drinks or food. Be sure they bring clothes that can be layered, as weather is so unpredictable.
Testing: The students were troopers. They were amazing, staying quiet when finished, allowing their fellow classmates to take as much time as needed. And thank you for having your students here on time each day.
