Prokop’s Press February 15, 2008
Dear Parents and Students,
Happy Valentine's Day! I want to thank all of those parents involved in making our Valentine Party a great time! We had fun making yogurt sundaes, decorating our Valentine bags, playing charades along with a puzzle of famous "pairs." Students also created a beautiful Valentine plate to take home. Thank you so much!
Math: We have finished our very important chapter on fractions. We now move on to integers,
chapter 6.
Language Arts: We continue our work with the "Iliad," along with work in our novels in literature circles. Next week students will be introduced to the large project, the ancient civilization report. They will need to know what civilization they want to write about by Monday, Feb. 25th., as students will be taught the first leg of report writing, and that is note card making, an important language arts standard. Look for the packet on Tuesday and please go over it with your child.
Social Studies: Students are working hard as we move through the chapters on Greece. Soon students will have 4 chapter tests that have been completed together. These will be used to study for a unit test on Greece.
Spellathon: Congratulations to room 16. We worked so hard and did really well on the final spellathon tests. Thank you for all your hard work at home as well, getting them ready. Envelopes are coming in daily. Our newest goal is to be the first class to have all our pledge money in. I am happy to say, that according to the projected pledges, I will be ordering the document camera for the classroom, one of our big goals. It replaces the overhead projector. Mrs. Dieken has one, and the students love spying on her using it, while they are often on the patio "working."
On to the regular subject of spelling. Next week we will be not having spelling due to the short week and the introduction of the report.
6th grade fundraisers: Thanks to our committee, parents are working hard to bring the cost of our science school down. We have two big fundraisers coming up. The first is dinner at Applebees. The flyer is included in the PFA envelope, please help out, and have dinner at Applebees. Secondly, is "Scoop Night at Bert and Rocky's " Come enjoy Chaparral's premier flavor and have the teachers scoop for you. Remember, both of these help bring the cost of camp down.
Have a wonderful three day weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Prokop
