 Prokop’s Press                         Nov. 13, 2009

Dear Parents and Students,
Soon Thanksgiving will be upon us, and as usual I ask myself where the time has gone. We have been busy, that is part of the reason. This is what we have been up to, and what is coming up next.
Spelling: Next week there will be no spelling with the shortened days.
Language Arts: Both grades are now in theme 2 of the Houghton Mifflin. Sixth is "What Really Happened?" and fifth is "Give It All You've Got." We will begin with stories about Amelia Earhart and Michelle Kwan.
Social Studies: 6th grade will soon begin the next chapter in the ancient civilization study. We will be looking at the middle east and begin the study of Mesopotamia. Tests from the Maya chapter will be returned next week, and what I have corrected so far looks really good. I am very impressed by how many students do extra credit in order to prepare for the test. Great job! 5th will be starting the preparation of their partner presentations of their region/native tribe booklets that they are finishing up on. Presentations will be scheduled for the 3 days before the Thanksgiving break, and then we will be on to studying the early explorers.
Science: 5th continues to work hard with Mrs. Dieken and are learning so much. 6th graders will be wrapping up unit 1, with the test on Tuesday, Nov. 24th. .
Foreign Language: Next week we learn about the food of the Chinese. Yum!
Math: For 6th grade, we have finished up on unit 2 with the test scheduled for Wed. On Monday we will take a practice test for the unit. It is very important that students review any problems they miss on Tuesday night so as to be better prepared for the test.
Parent Conferences: I look forward to meeting all of you in the next week or so.

Have a great weekend!

                                    Sincerely,

                                         Mrs. Prokop
