Prokop's  Press  Sept. 5, 2007   ff

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Room 16!  September is always an exciting time of year for all of us.  It’s especially exciting for those of us here at Chaparral School.  Sixth grade is an important time for your child to learn, gain independence, experience new and wonderful things, and prepare themselves for middle school.  I am confident your child will have a terrific year and I look forward to meeting all of you.

Today your child should have brought home a red folder.  This folder will normally go home on Friday afternoon and will contain graded papers, and usually a newsletter from me informing you of what your child is learning in school.  Please initial the folder each week and have your child return it Monday.  I will check for your initials, as it is my way of knowing you are receiving school information.

I have asked all of the students to cover their textbooks by Monday, September 10th.  It helps to protect the books so we can use them in the future. Especially as we have a brand new science book, a only a year old social studies book.   Please do not use contact paper or wrapping paper.  I suggest a brown paper grocery bag, cloth book covers, or something durable. (Nothing sticky, even those advertising “removable”, as these leave a sticky residue)

There are a few supplies I would like to suggest your child getting this school year.  These items are not mandatory, but it would be terrific if each student had them.  No child will be left out if the supplies are not brought into class.  (Anyone wishing to donate extra supplies is welcome to do so.)  I recommend that each student have the following:

      • thin felt tip pens
      • a 1 ½ ” binder for math work
      • a small calculator to keep with math binder
      • a zip binder pouch for math binder (to keep calculator, pencils and correcting pens in)
      • 2 sets of dividers, 1 set for math binder (need 11 tabs), and 1 set for writing binder I am providing (need 5 tabs)
      • 1 folder for homework/return schoolwork, no binders or organizers as they will not fit in their desks.

Please DO NOT BRING:

      • Trapper keeper/zip style binders (there is no room in their desk)
      • permanent markers
      • milky pens (fluorescent colored pens)
      • toys
      • pencil boxes (I will provide a cup) for supplies on desk

Back to School Night is Tuesday, September 18th.  I look forward to meeting all of you and informing you about our 6th grade program.  Don’t forget to fill out those emergency forms and return them to school A.S.A.P.!  My e-mail address is.....  lprokop@cusd.claremont.edu  .... if you need to reach me. Thank you, and I look forward to a terrific school year!

                        Sincerely,
