Literature Circles
We love having control over what we choose to read. By groups, we chose the following books; Among the Hidden, The Westing Game, Flipped, The City of Light and Dark, Pictures of Hollis Woods, and Nevermind. As we read, we were able to discuss, laugh, or try to solve the mystery/game together. To keep us on track and to guide our discussions, we each had jobs to complete. Sometimes we might be the "Passage Illustrator" and got to draw our favorite scene from the selection we were reading. Other times we were the "Inference Master, or the Word Wizard," finding and discussing new vocabulary. Writing a summary of the selection or writing discussions were also our tasks as "Summary Specialists," and "Question Wizard." What a much better way to read literature at school!
