Chaparral Child Development Program 2006 – 2007

We want to welcome all our new and returning families! This year along with myself, Kimberly Mueller, we have the following staff members on Chaparral's Child Development team:

We will strive present a positive and nurturing environment that will meet the needs of all our children, with respect to their individual development level and the cultural diversity of each child. We offer opportunities to learn about other cultures and customs. We hope you can share your traditions with all of us,also.

Outline

 

Productive Program Outline
We believe in offering a variety of choices, however along with choices also comes responsibility.Activities* Plan-Do-Review is a system we use to encourage the children to plan their day activities. Time to follow through known as Work time, and later. Time to review.* Planning Activities start with a basic schedule of time a child will be picked up.* Completion is not until everything is put away. Please encourage your child to sign out with going home and put magnet back on the home board.

Homework
Homework Contract : A contract signed by the child assuring that he/she does their homework. A No Homework Form will be signed by the child and attached to the sign-out book if there was no homework. * Assistance is always offered by tow of the staff, although we advise you to review their work.

Snacks
Nutritious snacks will be offered every afternoon.Safety and Success  We feel that if everyone observes and follows these basic procedures everything will go accordingly.

Arrivals and Departures
Always sign your child in/out by using your full signature. Absence Policy : we are instructed to call parents when a child is not checked in. We advise that you please notify the Child Development Staff if your child will be absent. You may leave a message on our answering machine. * Returning from an absence, we request that you sign your full signature. * Release of a child to an individual other than a parent will only be given if he/she is listed on the emergency card or has proper authorization with identification. * No child will be allowed to leave the Child Development Program alone under any circumstances.* Medication will be given by the staff, only if proper medical forms are filled out. Forms are available in the school office or the Child Development room. * Tuition may be paid by check or money order. An on-site payment box is available to deposit your check or money order. Cash payment will only be accepted at the Child Development Office.

Kindergarten Tips
Breakfast is available at 7:45 a.m. for children that attend the morning session. This is offered in the cafeteria and the cost is $1.00.* A Hot Lunch is available for $2 pre-paid at the cafeteria. Snack tickets may be purchased in advance and will be kept in the Child Development room. If you prefer, you may provide a lunch from home.* Rest Time should be a comfortable environment for the child. A small pillow and small blanket may be kept in their cubby for this purpose.* Extra play clothing can be kept in the Child Development room in case of emergencies.* A bag or backpack may be helpful for storing your child's belongings. Please be sure to label these belongings.

Ice Cream Sale
Every Friday after school, Child Development will sell ice cream for 50 cents to raise money for the program. The extra funds will go toward field trips and equipment. The Child Development program does not interfere with Chaparral's fundraising events. Thank you for your continued support and dedication!

Philosophy
  • The purpose of the Child Development Program is to provide a positive and nurturing cxperience in a safe, supportive and active learning environment. The needs of the children are met with regard to their level of development, their individuality, and the cultural diversity among them. Children are encouraged to help plan and to make choices. They learn to solve problems. and to be responsible, accountable students.
  • The program follows a HighIScope approach that develops social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth through hands-on experiences. We believe children learn by doing. Learning is a process of experiences.
Staff
  • The Child Develooment Program staff consists of experienced, qualified administrators and educators. The program staff is dedicated to quality child care. The SACC s'tafflchild ratios are 1: 14 All Child Development staff participate in on-going monthly inscrvice training, staff meetings and are offered opportunities to attend workshops to furrthtehre their skills.
  • All Child Development staff are finger-printed prior to employn~ent. Each site has staff who have current C.P.R. and First Aid certification and Health and Safety Training.

  • The program serves children from kindergarten through sixth grade.

Hours
  • The SACC Centers are open from 7:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. (exclusive of the time your child is in school)
Days of Operation
  • The SACC Program will be available to students on all regular school days. During the Winter Recess, Spring Recess, and Summer Vacation a full day program at a selected school site is offered from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on indicated days.

Parent Advisory Committee Information
  • The Parent Advisory Committee meets four times during the school year 011 Tuesday evenings. A partial list of the Parent Advisory Committee's Tasks are:
  1. This committee will become more aware of the needs of children in the Child Development Program. This committee will see if room usage and space is conducive to best serving the needs of the Child Development child. This committee will be instrumental in seeing that there is enough material for the program it serves.
  2. This committee will be an advocate for programs served on the school level, district level, board level and community.

Open Door Policy

  • Unannounced Visits - you may visit the SACC Program at any time during normal hours of operation. While there are many advantages of calling ahead, particularly if you want to discuss something privately with the lead teacher, you have a right to drop in as often as you like.
