About the Site |

The web site for Ken Knox's Grade Six classroom was developed for Mr. Knox through a collaborative effort between Kevin Stewart and Nareg Tovmassian, students of the Computer Information Systems (CIS) program at California State Polytechnic University(CalPoly) in Pomona, CA. The project was supervised by Dr. Larisa Preiser, the Assistant Chair and Professor of CIS at CalPoly.
This web site development endeavor is part of a series of the community service-learning projects in which Cal Poly CIS students are developing classroom web sites for the Chaparral Elementary School teachers. The teachers are being trained to maintain their web pages with Macromedia’s Contribute software.
The goal of establishing a Room Seventeen's Web Site was:
- To provide a means for the class to engage each other and the wider world using the technology of the Internet. Here they can access resources for both learning and entertainment in a safe environment.
- To provide a means for parents and family members to see the typical daily class environment, and learn more about what goes on daily in this environment.
- To provide an "on-hand" resource for parents to be informed of the school affairs, as well as that of the school district as pertains to their children.
