Behavior Expectations

        teacher board                     kids at desk

Having fun in school is a great way to develop a love for learning. I believe in having fun and encourage my students to explore, question, share, and enjoy themselves during class time. However, there is an appropriate time for interacting with others and there are rules that they must follow so that their idea of fun doesn’t turn into silliness that wastes class time. I do expect my students to behave in a manner that is respectful of others and conductive to learning and any behaviors that interfere with the learning process will not be tolerated.
For the most part, the majority of discipline problems that arise during any given day are normally and easily handled in the classroom. However, if a problem becomes persistent or is considered grave in nature then I will notify the parent so that we can work together to come up with solutions to help rectify the problem. Depending on its severity, there may be occasions when I will have to involve our school principal to help deal with the problem at hand.
THE RULES ARE EASY     RED GODMOTHER      GREEN GODMOTHER
  1. We have a Hands Off Policy. No hitting, kicking pushing, pulling, biting, pinching, tripping, or making faces…. Our body parts should only be used in a kind and helpful way.
  2. We use kind and encouraging words. No Put Downs!
  3. We listen politely, follow directions, and complete classwork in a timely manner.
  4. We take turns speaking one at a time. We don’t interrupt or yell out, and we raise our hand to take our turn.
  5. We work together as a team to cheer each other on, we respect and help each other, and we respect school property and the property of others

Birthdays

    CAKE                       dancing peppers

Birthdays are important to many children and they will be recognized on their special day. Healthy treats are acceptable but need to be coordinated with me ahead of time.  Some suggestions are fresh fruits, vegetables, yogurt, cheese etc...  Our district policy does not allow sweets such as cookies, cupcakes, cakes, candy, donuts, sodas etc...  If these items are brought in we will not be able to serve them so please check with me before you bring in any classroom treats.

If your child is planning on having a birthday party we request that any invitations be distributed outside of class time. This will help us avoid any hurt feelings and it will not take time away from the academic day. Your cooperation in following this policy will be greatly appreciated.

Restroom Policy

                  toilet paper                             toilet

I encourage the students to use the restrooms during the following break periods: 9:45–10:00 , 11:30-12:15 , and 1:30-1:40 . In addition to these times I also allow the students one restroom pass per day in order to keep classroom disruptions and loss of instruction at a minimum. However I do realize that there may be times when there are emergencies and I will need to make exceptions.

Class Pets snake

              chameleon                      frog pond                      turtle

Our class pets are used to teach responsibility in the proper care and handling of animals, they are a learning tool that is to be respected, and they are used for motivational purposes and incentives. Keeping pets in the classroom can be a lot of work and can be costly but the benefits of having them in the classroom are worth it.

During the holidays and vacations I allow students to take the animals home. I will send out sign ups prior to these times if you would like to have an animal visit your home. If more than one child signs up for the same animal then I will do a drawing to see who gets it. Priority will always be given to those individuals who have not had an opportunity to take an animal home.
Donations toward materials to keep the animal cages clean or for their food is always welcome and appreciated. Just let me know if you are interested in contributing toward the care and upkeep of our class pets.
