Language Arts Curriculum

We are using the Houghton Mifflin Reading/Language Arts program and the Four Square Writing program. Houghton Mifflin is a standards based literacy program, broken up into six story themes. We have two literature anthologies and supplemental reading materials. there are four academic components: Reading, Word Work, Writing and Language, and Cross-Curricular. Each one of these components is divided into skill areas.

This standards based literacy program is broken up into six story themes within our anthology and supplemental reading materials.

  • THEME 1: Silly Stories – Stories with silly characters and funny situations wich make us laugh.

  • THEME 2: Nature Walk – Nature can be observed and enjoyed wherever you are.

  • THEME 3: Around Town: Neighborhood and Community – People work hard to make their neighborhood a good place to live.

  • THEME 4: Amazing Animals – These animals do everything from the incredible to the hilarious.

  • THEME 5: Family Time – People in a family learn from and help one another.

  • THEME 6: Talent Show – Talented people work hard at what they love to do.
