For Parents

Dear Chaparral Parents:

Welcome to Kindergarten at Chaparral Elementary School! We look forward to working with you and your child this next school year. Listed below are some ways you can help your child have a smooth transition into Kindergarten.

1. Each child will need the following items each day at school: *a backpack to hold homework, papers and the Friday Folder. *a change of clothes in case of spills or other accidents. Please put them in a plastic bag with your child's name on it. IMPORTANT: Please put your child's name on all of his/her belongings, jackets especially.

2. We have an afternoon snack every day. Children need to bring in a small snack every day.  Some suggestions are: goldfish crackers, Ritz, Wheat Thins, Cheezits, Vanilla Wafers and graham crackers, yogurt, cheese sticks and a half of a sandwich to name a few.

3. Please do not allow your child to bring toys to school. Wednesday is our share day and I will let you know what our theme is going to be.

4. The school day is from 11:00 to 2:20 Mon. Tues. Thurs. and Fri.  On Wednesday, school is from 9:00 to 12:20.

5. Our Friday folder goes home on Fridays : ). It will have papers from the office and the monthly school newsletter. Also look for the Kindergarten newsletter that goes home every Friday. Please take all of the papers out of the folder and put the folder back into your child's backpack.

6. Make sure the office has all of the necessary immunization records and other forms needed to ensure your child can start Kindergarten.

7. At the end of the day, we dismiss the children one at a time to make sure every child is with his/her parent or guardian. Please do not take your child out of the line, but wait for his/her turn to be dismissed. I will make eye contact or wave when it is your child turn to be dismissed.

8. The Kindergarten newsletter goes home every Friday. Please make sure you read it thoroughly as it is my communication to you about what we are doing in Kindergarten. Also, it contains reminders of upcoming events and field trips as well as requests for items needed.

9. We welcome volunteers in the classroom. We have plenty of opportunities to help out either with the students, or behind the scenes.

If you have any questions, you can drop by, call the school (398-0305), or send an E-mail (I check it every week day).
