Book Report

What are they?
In 5th grade, students are required to read for at least 30 minutes each day. Book reports are intended to give the students a chance to reflect on what they have read and to share their reading interests and creativity with their classmates. To keep book reports interesting and enjoyable, students have to give a few required details, a short summary, and a creative presentation.
Requirements:
- Proper heading on summary and project.
- Title of book, properly capitalized and underlined
- Name of author (and illustrator, as applicable)
- Number of pages (should be at least 100 pages long)
- Type of book (fantasy, mystery, biography, etc.)
- Summary of the book (about 1 handwritten page, no more than 2 pages)
- What was the setting – time/place?
- Who were the main characters?
- What was the major conflict/problem?
- How was it resolved?
- How you would rate the book, on a scale of 1 to 10?
- Reason for your rating: What made the story good (enjoyable, captivating, etc.) or bad (boring, unbelievable, etc.)?
- Creative presentation of your book – here are some ideas:
- make a flip book
make a diorama
- make a crossword puzzle
- make a word search
- make a book jacket
- make a poster advertisement
- make a video/book review
- interview the author (role play)
- design a PowerPoint presentation
- design a game based on the book

Score Sheet:
- Proper heading – 1 point
- Title and author of book, - 2 pts.
- Type of book and number of pages – 2 pts.
- Summary of the book – 10 pts.
- Rating – 1 pt.
- Reason for your rating – 4 pts.
- Creative presentation of your book – 10 pts.

Reading :
3.1 Identify and analyze characteristics of …drama, fiction, and nonfiction.
3.2 Identify the main problem or conflict of the plot and explain how it is resolved.
3.7 Evaluate the author’s use of various techniques (e.g, logic and credibility of plots and settings, use of figurative language) to influence readers’ perspectives.
