A-Z PowerPoint Slide Show

*****WEB PAGE IN PROGRESS*****     *****WEB PAGE IN PROGESS*****

Your project has two parts: a PowerPoint slide and an oral report.  Some parts of the project will be done in class and some at home.  You will be expected to bring to class each day any materials you need for the project.

              General project requirements:

  • All work is to be done by YOU, the student.
  • Put information into your own words.
  • turn in a bibliography and notes
  • Follow all directions below:

I.  Brainstorming/Scavenger Hunt

  1. As a class, we wil explore the World Wide Web for events, people, and places related to the Colonial Period and the Revolutionary  War.  These terms will be placed on an A-Z poster.
  2. Choose one or two events/people/places to do research.  You will need to consult at least three sources.
  3. Find pictures and websites that you might use for your report.  Save on the desktop in a folder marked "Dieken" and your number.

II.  Research

  1. Find information about your event/person/place/thing.
  2. Use the Internet, your textbook, encyclopedia, or links on this website.
  3. Keep track of your resources -- you will need to turn in a bibliography, as well as your notes.
  4. Find the 5 Ws:

           a.  "Who" is the person, or "who" was involved with your event, place, or

                 thing?

           b.  "What" is the background or circumstance behind your

                  person/place/thing/or event?

            c.   "When" did your event take place?  What was the timeline for your

                   person/place/thing/event?

            d.  "Where" -- what colony/country -- did the event/person/place/thing

                  take place?

             e.  "Why" did the event take place?  "Why" did the person get involved?

             f.  "How" did this affect the Revolutionary War?

    5.  Don't forget to take notes and keep track of your sources!

III.  PowerPoint

    1.  In the computer lab, you will work on designing your own slide(s):  layout,

         design, color, transitions, and content.

    2.  You may include sound and pictures to your slide.

    3.  Save your file on the desktop as "(letter) for (topic)"  (example: "A for

         Abigail Adams")

    4.  information should be short phrases, rather than complete sentences

Oral Report:

You are required to give a brief oral report to the class during the slide show.  Include interesting facts and information about your topic that was not included in the slide.  You may use note cards, but you will not be allowed to read from your slide, which I will compile into one slide show.  Practice with family or friends to work on voice and pacing.  You should not try to memorize your whole report; just tell us the “good stuff.”
