Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome back to Dieken’s Den. Here are this week’s highlights:

Math: The chapter 8 test has been graded for Mrs. Dieken’s and Mr. Dahl’s math groups.  If you scored less than a ‘3’, please make corrections and attach them to the main test.  Be sure to get them signed by a parent.

Language Arts: Students took both parts of the CST English-Language Arts test this week.

Science: We reviewed all vocabulary and concepts in the textbook and during Astrocamp (as much as humanly possible!) to prepare for the test, which the students took Wednesday and Thursday.

Testing: Testing is over!  Thank you all for making sure students got plenty of sleep and a good breakfast.  No make-up tests to take (Woo hoo! J)

Perfect Attendance Reward: What better way to celebrate the end of testing than to celebrate 50 days of perfect attendance (now 58)!  Our class celebrated by having a mini Electronics Day before lunch and PE on the turf after lunch.  We also converted liquid milk and cream into solid ice cream, using salt to lower the freezing point of water.  Thank you to all parents who contributed supplies and assisted the kids on Friday.

Coming up...

Homework: Homework will resume next week, now that testing is over.

Permission slip: Just a reminder that the Family Life consent form (cut-off sheet) is due on Monday, May 12th.  Family Life starts on the 19th.

Track Meet: The upper grade track meet is scheduled for Friday, May 23rd.  All students are encouraged to sign up for up to 3 events, with the focus on participation and good sportsmanship.

Family Life: Some parents took advantage of the orientation meeting last Monday to view the materials as well as the video.  Be assured that boys and girls will be separate for most of the program.  All 5th graders, however, will be together once that week, when the nurse will discuss blood-borne pathogens and safety.  Respect and appropriateness will be emphasized.

The school year is almost over!  Only five weeks to go!  Hang in there.  Until next week, have a great weekend...

Mrs. Dieken
